Ichiro gets hit No. 2,999
“Saturday night at Coors Field, the Marlins outfielder beat out an infield single
for his 2,999th hit in the big leagues” says cbssports.com. “Ichiro” who is a major league baseball player needs
one more hit to achieve 3,000th Career Hit. Do you know Ichiro
Suzuki? He belongs to the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). And he is
called as one of the best baseball players in MLB.
Today, He came in to pinch-hit for Giancarlo Stanton and had an infield single
hit in the eighth inning for his 2,999th hit. He will become the
30th player in major league history to reach 3,000 hits with his next hit.
How
great is the 3,000 hits record? MLB has started for current
form as American League and National League since 1903. MLB has over 110 year
history but only 29 players accomplished this record. Anyway, what is great about
Ichiro’s record? Almost achievers started their careers at the age of 22 or 23.
On the other hand, Ichiro came to the USA and started to play baseball in MLB when
he was 27 years old. Many American press said if he started to play at the
average age of MLB, he can reach over 4,000 hit in MLB. In fact, he
achieved his 4,257th hits on 15 June 2016. This record is combining his 2,979
MLB hits with his 1,278 hits in NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) and recognised by Guinness World Records as
professional baseball's base hit king. In addition, although he is the oldest
fielder (42 years old), MLB official cite introduces him to us as the fifth
fastest runner in MLB.
I hope he will accomplish the record and I’m looking forward to watching
the next game.
