Colombia's New, Legal Drug Barons Focus on Medical Marijuana

Colombia’s drug laws were changed last year, and the new law allowed us to use medical marijuana for domestic way. Mr. Cock-Correa, who runs PharmaCielo which is the first company in Colombia to get an approval of making cannabis products and which is waiting for license of cultivation, said that this change would follow a shift from producing the plant that kills people to producing the plant that cures people.

Producing marijuana products has the possibility to be a global marketplace measured in the billions. The company has fertile lands and great climate for growing marijuana as an advantage. When production is started full, it expects that the cost of 1 gram of marijuana flowers is only 5 cents. If you try to buy the same amount of marijuana in the U.S. And Canada, at least it costs 10 times. That's because marijuana growers generally have 2 choices in North America : (1) grow the crop outdoors which produces just one harvest in a year, or (2) grow it indoors in buildings which is under intensive farming conditions.

Marijuana plants shift their stage from vegetatative one to flowering one when they are exposed particular lightning conditions. They need 12 hours of sunlight after 12 hours in the dark to become flowers. The company has the place where is along the Equator in Colombia, so it can get more suitable days naturally than other companies. Futhermore, it expects to have 4 harvests a year and expand their cultivating space to 600 acres (1 acre is about 4,050 square meters).
