Male
Lion Coalitions
Lions
are the true social cats in the entire family of cats. Home territory
of lions
size and social group size vary with habitat suitability and
prey abundance.
They generally shows the traits of a selfish
behavior. They generally form
large
groups in moist grasslands and
smaller groups in dry bushes. It has been
noticed that the Lion cub
generally gets separated from their group at the age
of approximately
2 years. There are both benefits and disadvantages for this
behavioral trait. The main cost which they have to pay is that, at
the age of 2
they are the easy targets to big predators in the wild
jungle and can risk their
lives to them. However there are certain
benefits in this behavioral trait as
getting separated at this age
gives then opportunity to explore and understand
the wild jungle in a
much better way. They learn to hunt and live in the jungle
independently at a very small age itself. This behavior makes them a
better
predator as they ages. This males enter in the nomadic phase
until they are
large enough to challenge a dominant male at the age
of five-six years of age
for the control of a pride. From the
perspective of future generations, this
behavior had always helped
the Lions to evolve with better hunting and
survival skills in the
wild.
