Dear Elizabeth
I am so sorry that you had to go through this. This is a horrible situation where no one should ever have to endure. I think it is really brave of you to share your story because it will help us understand why people act a certain way. Unfortunately, our society is very insensitive to the needs and safety of other people around them. Nowadays, the majority of people only focus on their own well-being, therefore causing them to become more selfish and narcissistic human beings. However, this is not a valid excuse for people not to step in and help. Nevertheless, there are many factors that influence on a person to react indifferent to others. For instance, people do not help because most of them think what happens to others is not their business. This phenomenon is referred to in social psychology as the bystander effect. On the other hand, people are also afraid to step in because they are worried that they could also be attacked and robbed.
Today, many people in this generation lack morals and values of compassion and empathy for other people besides themselves. However, this does not imply that everyone from this generation behaves in this manner. With that being said, I believe that there are some principals that should be taught to young children instead of allowing them to consume hours of social media and television on a daily basis. Furthermore, I hope that future generations to come can inherit more compassion for other people.
Elizabeth, I think you should thoroughly reflect on this experience and decide whether or not you feel safe in this neighborhood. Note that these events can occur anywhere, but if you feel moving is a good choice for you, then I would recommend you to do it. On the contrary, you should not let this situation affect your outlook on society. Try and continue to stay positive and move forward with your life. Thank you for letting us to listen to you.
Best wishes.
That is such a good response
